Compounding is the pharmaceutical act of customizing medications to the specific needs of the patient. This may include creating medications that are more palatable, medications of various dosage strengths, medications that are allergy free, and medications with different application forms (ointment, lotion, elixir, suspensions...). Compounding also becomes necessary when the patient's condition is so severe that it can only be treated effectively with injections.
At Crossroad pharmacy, we work closely with specialties including veterinary, pain management, neonate, pediatrics, geriatrics and more. We offer two types of compounding.
Sterile compounding includes any pharmaceutical manipulations intended to produce a sterile final product. This type of compounding is the corner stone of infusion therapy where medications are administered intravenously and are required to be sterile. With our state-of-the-art cleanroom that meets USP <797> rigorous guidelines for class 5,7 and 8 cleanliness levels, Crossroad pharmacy is certified to compound sterile products. To ensure the safety of patients, our products, facility and employees are routinely tested for sterility in compliance with USP <797> guidelines.
This usually involves the making of custom creams, ointments, suppositories, solutions and more. Despite the name, non-sterile compounding is safe and requires a closely monitored clean working environment with very strict guidelines. At Crossroad pharmacy, every medications are customized according to legal and industry strict standards that ensure that every ingredient maintains its potency and purity.
